The Government of India will be issuing a set of five commemorative coins in the denominations of Re. 1, Rs. 2, Rs. 5, Rs. 10 and Rs. 75 to mark the occasion of Platinum Jubilee of Reserve Bank of India. RBI's Platinum Jubilee : Currency Notes of last 75 years on display
The Reserve Bank of India which started operations on April 1, 1935 is celebrating its Platinum Jubilee this year. To mark this occasion, the Reserve Bank has arranged an exhibition of all the banknotes issued since its inception. The exhibition is in the Reserve Bank's Monetary Museum and will remain open for public viewing till June 30, 2010. Entry to the exhibition is free. Restrictive practices while accepting bank notes
It has come to the notice of the Reserve Bank of India that certain establishments are adopting restrictive practices such as not accepting notes of certain denominations or series etc. The Reserve Bank of India, therefore considers it necessary to emphasise that all government/semi-government offices, public/ private sector institutions and also any other organisation/establishment/ individual accepting cash should desist from such practices. On enquiries from the press and members of public, the Reserve Bank of India has clarified as follows:As a part of its currency management programme, the Reserve Bank phases out banknotes of old design once banknotes in new design with additional/enhanced security features are introduced. It has been brought to the Bank's notice that members of public, institutions and others continue to write messages etc. on the watermark window and deface the portraits etc. on the banknotes. The Bank wishes to reiterate that such practices work against the Clean Note Policy of the Bank.
